The challenge
The National Aerospace and Defence Contractors Accreditation Program (Nadcap) brings together prime contractors, suppliers and government to achieve a standardised approach to quality assurance, auditing and accreditation throughout the supply chain. In 2016, a new Measurement and Inspection (M&I) certification was introduced to ensure that quality is measured across the industry consistently. Aerospace primes are now looking to mandate Nadcap M&I certification to their supply chains, and suppliers will need to achieve Nadcap M&I compliance or risk losing significant business.
The solution
Aeromet International Ltd is a world leader in the production of aluminium castings and holds Nadcap accreditation for a range of special processes. Aeromet needed our help to prepare for the Nadcap M&I standard following notification from one of their prime customers that accreditation was required.
Our experts performed a 'Gap Analysis', which follows the Nadcap audit process to identify where there are any potential gaps in current practices that may lead to Non-Conformance Reports (NCR) in a formal audit.
We worked with Aeromet through Sharing in Growth UK Ltd, an ambitious Regional Growth Funded programme to support 64 UK Aerospace companies to drive productivity and competitiveness.
The impact
Our team coached the business in industry best practice, and produced a final report, which detailed potential NCRs and suggested improvements, giving Aeromet all they needed to achieve Nadcap M&I certification and gain a competitive edge.
Aeromet became the first company in the UK to achieve Nadcap M&I accreditation, which puts it in the first five in Europe and first 50 in the world to attain this standard.
