PostGraduate Institute for Measurement Science

Our future workforce – creating impact through measurement

What is the PGI?

The PostGraduate Institute for Measurement Science is a world-leading community, harnessing the talent of around 200 postgraduate researchers to pursue their specific research area alongside experts in their chosen field. Our researchers bring energy and fresh ideas to professional teams led by renowned scientists and engineers working at the forefront of collaborative metrology, developing real solutions for industry, which often lead to exclusive career paths into business, academia or policy.

Founded in 2015 through a strategic partnership between The Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, the National Physical Laboratory, the University of Strathclyde and the University of Surrey, the PGI works with over 30 UK universities and industrial partners. PGI staff are known for being a proactive and nurturing team, who are always willing to go the extra mile to create an excellent experience for our curious students. This makes us uniquely positioned to link up businesses with the best minds and resources in measurement science.
