Principles of condensation testing for harsh environment testing and rapid assessment
Increased electrification of our energy and transport systems results in the challenge of finding cutting-edge components that can handle the specific demands, particularly in power electronics and electric vehicles. This can includes harsh operating conditions such as high humidity and temperature fluctuations. In these environments, failure insulation resistance degradation by electrochemical migration (ECM) is an increasing issue as electronic feature sizes diminish, and voltages increase. Therefore, it is crucial to develop rapid and repeatable tests to predict the reliability of electronics, reduce test times and develop methodologies to improve product lifetimes.
Condensation testing is widely used by engineers, especially in the automotive sector, to understand how their systems perform in harsh environments and avoid ECM. This method is also valuable for rapid assessment of components, assemblies and conformal coatings in damp environments. This webinar will explore the fundamentals of insulation resistance testing and delve into the process of condensation testing. We will cover test vehicle design, result interpretation, and showcase examples of condensation testing outcomes. Additionally, we will discuss scenarios where this technique proves invaluable.
