NPL offers a range of on-site leak detection and measurement capabilities that can be incorporated into a site survey service aimed at identifying and quantifying leaks.
Initial site walkovers can be carried out using fast response gas detecting instruments to identify leaks through the change in local gas concentrations. Typically used to detect methane these provide a quick method to find leaks.
NPL has a range of optical gas imagining systems (OGIs) which are sensitive to hydrocarbons and CO2 and can quickly identify sources of emission during a site survey. When combined with measurement techniques, such as local DIAL, these sources can be both identified and subsequently quantified.
NPL can also deploy local Bacharach high flow samplers to quantify individual leaks identified using other techniques. This 'virtual bagging' technique quantifies emissions from individual leaking components. Sensitive to methane and a range of other hydrocarbons, this can provide data for reporting leak rates and enables quantification of the emission reduction from leak repair.
