Ruchi Saxena

Ruchi Saxena joined NPL in March 2022 as a Higher Scientist in the Quantum Electrical Metrology group. Her research in the group is mainly focused on realising a single and multi-photon source and their detection.

Ruchi Saxena received her PhD in 2018 from Harish-Chandra Research Institute, India in Theoretical Quantum Condensed Matter Physics. During her PhD She worked on quantum transport in low-dimensional Dirac systems with spin-orbit coupling. Using Brillouin-Wigner perturbation theory she theoretically investigated the high frequency irradiation effect on two dimensional Dirac materials which have buckled structure. Computing the exact solution in the low energy limit unveils many more topological phase transitions in the phase space of system parameters. She further studied the stability of topological phases considering uniform disorder in her analysis. She joined the Advanced Technology Institute, University of Surrey as a Postdoc in August 2018 where she worked on a European project 'High frequency Topological Insulator devices for Metrology' (HiTIMe). She, along with her collaborators, proposed a quantum dot model based on topological insulator nanowire and analysed its potential to realise a topological quantised charge pump for metrological applications. She has received Higher Education Academy Fellowship at the University of Surrey which is an international recognition of professionalism in teaching and learning that aligned with the UK Professional Standards Framework (UKPSF).
