Professor Robert Sorrell (He/Him/His) is chair of the NPL Science Technology Advisory Committee (STAC) as well as a non-executive Director on the NPL Board.
A career scientist, Professor Sorrell chairs the Campaign for Science and Engineering (CaSE) and is a Strategic Advisor to the National Centre for Universities and Business (NCUB). He is the CEO of the Royce Hydrogen Accelerator and is the Hydrogen Challenge Lead for the Royce Institute. Professor Sorrell also chairs UKRPIF.
He brings over thirty years of R&D experience across industry, academia, government and the charity sectors. He is experienced in working at all levels, from a start-up to driving complex multi-million-dollar projects involving diverse stakeholders and international teams. He worked for bp in a variety of technical and commercial roles over a 33-year career and held various non-executive Director roles, including in a start-up and two terms on the Innovate UK Board. He has also chaired and served on numerous EPSRC grant panels and was an industrial advisor on Main Panel B for the 2014 REF.
Professor Sorrell is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry.
