For people, place, prosperity and planet, we deliver impact with measurement science

Billie Sherin

Billie Sherin

Higher Scientist

Billie graduated from King’s College London in 2019 with a first class MSci degree in Chemistry and followed on by working in radiopharmaceuticals where she gained a strong understanding of quality management systems. She joined NPL in January 2023 as a Scientist in the Electrochemistry group, and has since been promoted to Higher Scientist in January 2025. Her work at NPL focusses on water electrolysers including traditional alkaline, proton-exchange membrane and anion-exchange membrane water electrolysis for hydrogen generation. By developing bespoke setups for customers, the use and optimisation of various cells, components and materials for water electrolysis will help the energy transition to low-carbon hydrogen as a fuel.

Areas of interest

  • Cell design and optimisation of water electrolysers
  • Characterisation of water electrolysis materials and components
  • In situ reference electrode applications
  • Development of new measurement techniques for performance and stability assessment of water electrolysers
