Xiangnan Sun

Higher Scientist

Xiangnan Sun is a Higher Scientist in the Optical Frequency Metrology group at the National Physical Laboratory (NPL), having joined in July 2023. He completed his PhD studies at the University of Tokyo, where he investigated novel wavelength tuning mechanisms in all-polarization-maintaining fibre cavities and engaged in collaborative research on state-of-the-art Stimulated Raman Scattering (SRS) microscopy. After earning his PhD in March 2023, he became part of the NPL team.

Currently, he works with the frequency combs team in The Advanced Quantum Metrology Laboratory (AQML). His role focuses on enabling the dissemination of stable frequency references and providing high-precision frequency measurements to both internal and external partners.

Areas of interest

  • Optical frequency comb systems for high-resolution measurement of absolute optical frequencies
  • Programming for theoretical modelling, data analysis and statistical analysis
  • Novel integrated microcavity resonators and fibre lasers
  • Time and frequency dissemination over optical fibre links
