For people, place, prosperity and planet, we deliver impact with measurement science

Wesley Bond

Wesley Bond

Higher scientist

Wesley joined the NPL temperature and humidity team in 2017 after studying a Masters in Astrophysics at UCL. His day to day role focuses on the calibration of infra-red thermometers and research to lower the uncertainty of thermal imaging temperature measurement. The need to measure temperature across a broad range of applications – from medicine to rocket engines – has given him the chance to work on a wide range of projects, including the construction of NPL’s hottest Christmas pudding.

Looking ahead, Wesley’s aim is to bring thermal imaging into new extremes such as the vacuum of space and high radiation environments. Enabling end users to measure temperatures over 1000 °C with lower uncertainty is also a key area of interest and similar efforts are being made across the temperature and humidity group, both to improve NPL’s in-lab capability and to provide customers with those new capabilities as measurement solutions.
