For people, place, prosperity and planet, we deliver impact with measurement science

Thomas Wakelin

Thomas Wakelin

Higher Scientist

Thomas completed his PhD at The University of Southampton and Diamond Light Source In 2024, under the supervision of Professor Andrea Russell. His doctoral research involved using in situ dispersible spectroscopy techniques to study the kinetics of ions and electrons in aqueous battery materials. Thomas has undertaken a number of electrochemical research projects at his time in Southampton covering a range of electrochemical techniques and fundamental topics.

Thomas joined NPL in February 2024 with his work focusing on application of fundamental electrochemistry to biosensors and hydrogen technologies.

Areas of interest

Thomas is a highly motivated and determined scientist working for the electrochemistry group at NPL. He has a strong passion for sustainability, physical chemistry, electrochemistry, and spectroscopy. Thomas is involved in delivering projects for both the analytical electrochemistry and hydrogen themes, with intention to apply his fundamental knowledge to modelling, batteries and corrosion themes.
