Ted Silva Santana is a Higher Scientist in the Quantum Photonics team at the National Physical Laboratory (NPL), the UK’s national metrology laboratory.
He received a BSc in Physics from Universidade Estadual de Feira de Santana, and a PhD in Physics from Heriot-Watt University. After his PhD, Ted worked as a post-doctoral researcher, physics teacher, lecturer and temporary faculty member. He joined NPL in 2021 and his current interests are the metrology of solid-state single-photon emitters and quantum key distribution hardware.
Ted has a wealth of experience in dark field confocal microscopy, photoluminescence detection from mesoscopic systems, resonance fluorescence from quantum dots, photon counting measurements, and correlation function measurements using ultrafast electronic devices. His theoretical expertise includes the derivation of master equations, the numerical and analytical calculation of trajectories for time-dependent quantum systems, and modelling of photon statistics measurements.
