Sean Mulholland is a senior scientist in the atomic clocks and sensors group where his work focuses on miniaturising cutting edge cold trapped ion optical and microwave frequency standards so that they can be deployed outside specialist laboratories.
Sean started working at NPL in 2014 as an Oxford DPhil student and stayed at NPL after finishing his degree. From 2018-2021 Sean was awarded a NASA postdoctoral program fellowship and worked in the Quantum Sciences and Technology Group at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory developing technologies for space based optical clocks using trapped ions.
