Riju Banerjee joined NPL in 2022 as a Higher Scientist in the Quantum Computing Circuits group. He brings his background as an experimental physicist, specializing in Scanning Probe Microscopy and Quantum Measurements using superconducting qubits. Prior to joining NPL, he earned his Ph.D. from the Pennsylvania State University and did his postdoctoral training at the University of Chicago.
At NPL, he is working on combining Scanning Probe Microscopy with quantum measurement and sensing techniques to investigate material properties and defects that contribute to decoherence and loss of quantum information.
The aim of this research is to uncover the various underlying causes of quantum information loss in solid state quantum circuits and ultimately develop robust systems capable of storing quantum information (like long-lived qubits and resonators) while also standardising the associated procedures.
