Peter Tsoulos joined NPL in late 2020 as a senior electronics engineer in the Atomic Clocks and Sensors group. He supports projects within the group, leading the development of their required electronics and software systems, such as work on NPL’s European Space Agency projects.
Peter previously spent two years at EDMI Europe as a Senior Integration-Development Framework Engineer, developing automated test systems for smart electric and gas SMETS2 meter products. Prior to EDMI Peter had worked at FT Technologies since 2005, following a move to the UK from Australia. As an embedded software engineer, progressing to Principal Embedded Software Engineer, Peter worked primarily developing embedded software for the company’s range of high-reliability acoustic resonance wind sensor products, but also developed test, calibration and maintenance software to support in-house production activities, suppliers and customers.
Peter has expertise in developing embedded software and FPGA firmware for optical cavity-based laser frequency stabilisation control systems for space applications. Peter is a chartered engineer (CEng), a member of the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) and of Engineers Australia.
Areas of interest
- Design of embedded software for microcontrollers and FPGAs for high reliability, maintainability and readability.
- Space-based optical atomic clocks and laser stabilisation systems for navigation and resilient timing applications.
- Transitioning the technology readiness level of research projects’ electronics and software towards commericalisable systems.
