For people, place, prosperity and planet, we deliver impact with measurement science

Peter Read

Peter Read

Higher Scientist

Peter Read is a higher scientist working in the Atomic Clocks and Sensors group within the Time and Frequency Department at the National Physical Laboratory (NPL). He joined NPL in 2022 after completing his PhD at the University of Glasgow working on the design and characterisation of novel semiconductor laser diodes. While at NPL, Peter has continued this work into laser characterisation as part of the holdover atomic clocks team. His particular interests are in laser linewidth measurements as well as characterisation of bespoke and novel laser systems in collaboration with industry partners.

Areas of interest

  • Laser design, manufacture, and characterisation
  • Integration of lasers into atomic clock systems
  • Comparison of linewidth measurement techniques at different timescales
