Associate pro-Vice Chancellor for Research

Professor Laura Harkness-Brennan is Associate pro-Vice Chancellor for Research and Impact for the Faculty of Science and Engineering at the University of Liverpool. She also holds a Personal Chair in Nuclear Physics. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a member of the Institute of Physics.

Laura's research focuses on gamma-ray spectroscopy and imaging, in particular the development of novel radiation detectors and analytical techniques. Her research has application in blue-skies discovery science for which the detectors are used to study the properties of atomic nuclei, and in societal applications including medical imaging and nuclear decommissioning.

Laura has led the delivery of projects that are strategically important to the UK and European nuclear physics communities. She has also led a national STFC-funded research network in cancer diagnosis with membership spanning over fifty organisations.
