Jonathan joined NPL in 2020 to work in the Atomic Clocks and Sensors group on the development of compact optical reference cavities. He was previously at the University of Bristol undertaking doctoral research in advanced composite materials and structures, with his specialism in structural design and numerical modelling. Specifically, his research focussed on the design of composite compliant mechanisms tailored for novel behaviours, and ways that these responses could be characterised and visualised. Prior to this he was awarded a BEng (Hons) in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Bristol in 2016. His other experiences include research placements in the UK and US, as well as internships within the UK aviation industry.
