Irshaad Fatadin

Principal scientist

Irshaad Fatadin joined the National Physical Laboratory in 2002 where he is currently a Principal Research Scientist in the Electromagnetic Technologies group.

He is also a Visiting Professor at the University of Surrey in the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences. He has led NPL’s collaborative research with industry and academia on several pan-European projects in the Photonics area.

He currently serves on the Technical Program Committee of the IEEE British and Irish Conference on Optics and Photonics (BICOP) and the international PHOTOPTICS Conference. He also serves the UK industry as technical expert on the BSI GEL86 Committee setting standards for optical fibre, optical connector and optical circuit boards. His research interests include the areas of high-speed optical and THz communications, digital signal processing algorithms, photonic integrated circuits, electro-optical circuit board (EOCB) and numerical simulation of optoelectronic devices and systems.

He is a Chartered Physicist (CPhys), a Chartered Engineer (CEng) registered with the Engineering Council UK and a senior member of the IEEE.
