Gyanesh Singh is a Higher Scientist in the Air Quality and Aerosol Metrology Group (AQAM) at the National Physical Laboratory (NPL). He joined AQAM in 2024, bringing with him a robust background in Environmental Engineering, having earned his Master's and PhD from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, India.
Prior to his current position, Gyanesh was part of the emissions and atmospheric metrology (EAM) group at NPL from May 2023 to April 2024. Gyanesh's PhD research was centred on the investigation of ambient aerosol load, size distribution, and physico-chemical transformations. His work utilised advanced techniques such as bulk chemical characterisation and stable isotopic compositions (C and N) to achieve comprehensive insights. For this exceptional research, he was awarded the Outstanding PhD Thesis Award. His research excellence was further recognised when he was awarded the Horizon Europe Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions post-doctoral fellowship (HORIZON-MSCA-2022-PF).
Gyanesh is an active member of the European Geosciences Union (EGU). His expertise and contributions to the field are recognised through his role as a reviewer for several high-impact, peer-reviewed journals specialising in aerosols.
He possesses significant experience with a wide range of instruments essential for aerosol characterisation, including OC/EC Analyzer, TOC Analyzer, GC-MS EA-IRMS, OPC, Spectrophotometer, Aerosol Spectrometer, Low and High Volume Single and Multi-Channel Aerosol Samplers.
Current interests
In his current role at AQAM, Gyanesh supports the maintenance and development of the air quality network. His work is crucial in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of air quality measurements, thereby contributing to public health and environmental protection.
