Christian Bortolini

Higher scientist

Christian Bortolini joined the Surface Technology Group at NPL in November 2023 as a Higher Scientist. His work focuses on biological applications of Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) with a particular interest in exploring the nano mechanics of biomaterials.

Christian obtained his PhDs from Aarhus University (Denmark) in Nanoscience, and from the University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (P.R. China) in Physical Chemistry, working on peptide self assembly.

He was awarded an individual postdoctoral fellowship from the Lundbeck Foundation to carry out independent work in amyloid biophysics at Aarhus and Cambridge Universities. He then worked as a postdoc on cancer research at Imperial College London, and on the complement membrane attack complex in the context of antimicrobial resistance at University College London and King’s College London.
