For people, place, prosperity and planet, we deliver impact with measurement science

Ana Yong

Ana Yong

Senior scientist

Dr Ana Yong, Senior Scientist within NPL's Advanced Engineering Materials group, leads work in composite materials processing metrology. Since 2018 she has been coordinating international benchmarking activities across 30+ institutions aiming to produce robust, validated methods for measuring the though-thickness fabric permeability and compressibility to pave the way for standardisation and enable more energy efficient composite manufacturing.

After completing a BEng in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Surrey in 2011, Ana specialised in advanced materials science and engineering through her MSc at Imperial College London. Ana went on to obtain an EngD in Micro- and Nanomaterials for studying nanocomposite metrology and improved methods for the thermal analysis of cure in polymer composites.

Areas of Interest

Ana’s work seeks to support the manufacture of composite materials through development of robust, standardised permeability measurement techniques and validation of manufacturing process simulation. As part of this work, Ana has led four international benchmarking exercises in the measurement of textile permeability and compressibility.
