Professor Ian Gilmore FMedSci has been awarded two international awards for his contributions to the scientific community. Ian is the inaugural winner of the Alfred Benninghoven award which honours the major contribution he has made to the field of Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry (SIMS) and related techniques.

Ian has been recognised and awarded for his outstanding contribution to the field, which culminated with the invention a new instrument combining the advantages of Time of Flight (ToF)-SIMS with the high-mass resolution and structural analysis capabilities of the Orbitrap mass spectrometer. As winner of the Alfred Benninghoven Award, Ian is granted a plenary lecture at the SIMS 24 conference in La Rochelle in September, together with a plaque or medal.

Ian has also received the 2024 ECASIA Award.
