Gareth Hinds is Science Area Leader in Electrochemistry, leading a team of scientists undertaking ground-breaking research in corrosion, electrochemical energy conversion and storage, and analytical electrochemistry, and now a Senior NPL Fellow.
NPL Fellowship is a recognition of individual merit awarded to scientists and engineers who are making significant contributions to NPL and the scientific community.
Gareth has an outstanding track record of addressing challenging industry problems in corrosion management, hydrogen technologies and batteries, in particular through the development and application of novel in situ measurement techniques, modelling tools, and standard test methods.
Gareth’s leadership has driven the establishment of world-leading NPL capability in electrochemical hydrogen technologies and high energy density batteries
This has positioned NPL to provide metrology support for critical national programmes, including the Faraday Battery Challenge and the Hydrogen Innovation Initiative.
Gareth is President of the World Corrosion Organization (WCO), Vice President of the European Federation of Corrosion (EFC) and Past President of the Institute of Corrosion (ICorr). He holds Visiting Professorships at: University College London; the University of Strathclyde; and Harbin Institute of Technology. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in 2019.
