Dr. Valerie Livina received 2024 lifetime award from the American Physical Society

Dr. Valerie Livina, Principal Scientist in Data Science, has received the 2024 APS lifetime award “Outstanding Referee” for serving Physical Reviews journals (PRL, PRE) from the American Physical Society. Since 2008, it is given annually by the American Physical Society to around 100 people of the APS 88600+ pool of active journal referees.

The American Physical Society (APS) is a not-for-profit membership organisation of professionals in physics and related disciplines, comprising nearly fifty divisions, sections, and other units. Its mission is the advancement and diffusion of knowledge of physics. The society publishes more than a dozen scientific journals, including the prestigious Physical Review and Physical Review Letters, and organises more than 20 science meetings each year.

Dr. Valerie Livina, principal scientist, said: I am honoured to receive this award, which is such a great sign of a reviewer appreciation in the research community. I have been reviewing papers for many years, and Physical Reviews are always interesting papers to read: their submissions are of high scientific quality, and they allowed me to study state-of-the art development in many branches of modern physics. The award is a nice surprise, as the nominations are submitted by editors without notifying nominees. It also gives me confidence in my work as a reviewer and encourages me to explore broader research topics than my immediate work. I am grateful to APS for this honour.”
