The Investigators’ Award is open for applications today, celebrating those who undertake curiosity driven research, enhance measurement service and enable commercial research and development (R&D) at NPL. The award is looking for entries that support NPL’s vision:
- Excellence in Science and Engineering
- Exemplary National Laboratory
- Extraordinary Impact
Proposals should exhibit creativity, ingenuity and be imaginative. Successful proposals will embrace the concept of Impact from Science and demonstrate clear pathways to impact. Projects should also align to the (soon to be published) Metrology Research Roadmaps and the 2020 Measurement foresighting document.
The process involves a single-stage submission that will be peer-reviewed by internal and external experts. A panel (selected from across NPL) will then convene to prioritise projects. The panel may request an interview with the candidates to support this prioritisation.
Successful projects will be led by a Principal Investigator and have co-investigators from NPL, or externally. The scope for project size is approximately 2 FTE for, typically, 3 years. Exceptionally ambitious projects of up to 5 years will be considered.
Projects are expected to start in January 2023 and could be undertaken pro-rata if you work part time. We welcome external applicants.
If you believe you have a suitable project, please contact us to discuss further.
Submissions close 15th June, with full proposals due 15th July. Adjustments to this process can be made to allow for special requirements.
