Consortium building and knowledge exchange seminar
The pharmaceutical industry is facing growing pressure to adopt sustainable practices, particularly in packaging, where rising global demand is driving increased waste and emissions. Concerns around packaging materials contamination have raised customer safety issues and has hindered the industry’s adoption of sustainable packaging. Therefore, novel technologies are urgently required to address these challenges whilst accelerating circular economy.
A project led by the National Physical Laboratory, supported by CPI, University of Kent, Alga (Seaweed) and The Naked Pharmacy, has been awarded Innovate UK Seed Funding as part of the Sustainable Medicines Manufacturing Innovation Programme (SMMIP) to support the development of a supply chain consortium for sustainable packaging in the pharmaceutical industry. The project aims to develop a green processing technology platform utilising supercritical carbon dioxide’s (scCO2) versatility to support legislation compliance without jeopardising product performance or integrity.
This consortium building and knowledge exchange workshop will inform our understanding of relevant challenges, the readiness to adopt new technologies and explore how metrology can best support a transition of medicine manufacturing toward a more sustainable future. We welcome stakeholders from across the entire pharmaceutical and consumer healthcare supply chain and innovation ecosystem.
