The challenge
Dawson Precision Components (DPC) is a Lancashire-based engineering firm producing high quality precision components from specialised materials for a variety of different sectors including medical, telecoms, transport and energy.
Staff at the firm have a range of skills as varied as the bespoke products DPC produces. They are from different backgrounds with varying experience and different levels of understanding regarding technical drawings and use of measuring equipment. Training was sought to ensure this understanding was improved and standardised across the team.
The solution
DPC invested in NPL Training to deliver a course to give its staff a clearer understanding of geometric symbols and tolerances; increased confidence in inspecting various components; a collective understanding of how to interpret drawings to avoid confusion; and an appreciation of the conditions or inaccuracies that can affect measurement as a whole.
The impact
The operators came away with a clearer understanding of geometric symbols and tolerances, increased confidence in inspecting components, understanding of how to interpret drawings, and an appreciation of the conditions or inaccuracies that can affect measurement as a whole. The skills they developed have resulted in benefits in all areas of quality control, increasing production efficiency and accuracy, and ensuring customer satisfaction.
